Repair when it is safe to repair

Mobile Puncture Repair

Not every puncture needs a replacement tyre, and not every damaged tyre can be repaired safely. AH inspects the damage, tread, sidewall and previous condition before recommending repair or replacement.

Service explained

A proper inspection comes before a repair

A repair decision depends on where the object entered, the size and type of damage, remaining tread, internal condition and whether the tyre has been driven while flat. A visible nail in the tread does not by itself prove that a safe permanent repair is possible.

The wheel may need to be removed and the tyre examined internally. Sidewall damage, exposed cords, severe cracking, deformation, previous unsuitable repairs or damage caused by running flat normally point towards replacement rather than another patch.

When a puncture may not be repairable

Damage close to the shoulder or in the sidewall is treated differently from a small penetration in the main tread area. Bulges, cuts, exposed structure and impact damage require particular caution because they can affect the tyre casing.

Driving after pressure has been lost can damage the inside even when the outside looks acceptable. Tell the fitter how far the vehicle travelled, whether a warning appeared and whether sealant or a temporary repair has already been used.

Service questions

Puncture Repair FAQs

For an urgent immobilised vehicle, call from a protected location.

Can every nail puncture be repaired?

No. Repair depends on the position and size of the penetration, internal condition, tread depth and whether the tyre was driven flat. The fitter must inspect it first.

Can sidewall damage be repaired?

Sidewall cuts, bulges and structural damage are not treated like a simple tread puncture and commonly require replacement. Avoid driving until the tyre is assessed.

Should I use tyre sealant before calling?

Sealant may be intended only as temporary mobility assistance and can affect inspection or TPMS components. Tell AH if any sealant has already been used.

What if the puncture cannot be repaired?

AH can quote a correctly specified replacement from available stock. The tyre choice and total fitted price are confirmed before proceeding.
